Breaking Boundaries: Using Limitations to Expand Creativity in Painting

One night only, on Thursday, May 29, 2025 – the Elora Centre for the Arts hosts Breaking Boundaries: Using Limitations to Expand Creativity in Painting, a painting workshop that explores what happens when you limit your choices of things like colour, process and tools.

What happens when you only use two colours?

Or when you have to use a tiny paint brush on a large canvas? Or when you use dice to choose what type of lines you paint and what colours you use? Find out how creative you can be when you set your own rules while painting!

Artist Ahmri Vandeborne will guide you in a playful evening workshop setting limitations on tools and processes to help expand your creativity. She’ll offer examples of different types of processes that could be used to set limitations. You’ll then choose how you’d like to paint – and create an image based on the guidelines you’ve set for yourself. Gather with other artists to make something unique and think outside the box!

This class has 12 spaces available, for participants aged 16 and older. No experience necessary.
