ARTiculations Art Supply invites you to explore drawing and wet media on washi papers* in an online Washi Drawing Club. Broken up into seasonal courses, each course takes place on the fourth Monday of every month, for three months.
A journey of creative exploration continues – with a twist
Originally founded and facilitated by The Japanese Paper Place, this program has been cherished for its exploration of the beauty and versatility of Japanese washi papers. After years of facilitation, both in-studio and online, The Japanese Paper Place has entrusted ARTiculations with the honour of continuing this beloved course – and ARTiculations is thrilled to carry forward their legacy while bringing their own creative twist.
Discover the art of washi paper from home
At each monthly session – three in total for each seasonal course – the club meets online for an engaging couple of hours, starting with a short presentation introducing the supplied papers and unique qualities. The group will share a theme and some inspirational images for the evening of exploration. Most of the session will be spent experimenting with dry (e.g., pencils, pastels, etc.) and wet media (e.g., paints and inks) on the washi papers in your own studios or at your kitchen table.
The courses will be facilitated by artist Marie Boal. Behind the scenes, ARTiculations owner Heather Phillips plays an integral role in developing the course materials packages (see full description of course package items below) and shaping the program. Heather will also help moderate the Zoom sessions and online community, ensuring a smooth and engaging experience for everyone. Together, Marie and Heather bring a shared passion for fostering creative material exploration and play, making this next chapter of the Washi Drawing Club an exciting one.
As part of ARTiculcations’ new approach, they’ve added some of their favourite wet and dry art supplies in your course package, to encourage even more creative play and discovery on these beautiful papers. At the end of the session, the group will come together to share discoveries, experiments and ideas.
Packages are mailed to participants in advance, so you’re ready to dive in when the club meets.
