Launch party featuring Aqua’s Red Rhythm & Blues (July 3)
Bringing stories of Indigenous hope and resilience to the Greek Theatre, this one-night only performance will feature music, hand drumming and dance. Aqua, just as their name suggests, is an elemental force. They bring a unique take on blues music and have created their own genre, IndigiBlues – inspired by their life stories as an IndigiQueer person of mixed ancestry and rooted in their Anishinaabe heritage. As a survivor and warrior, Aqua brings poetry to rhythm with the help of their hand drum. Accompanied by their queer guitarist Valentina Morelli, talented violinist Alex George, and fancy shawl dancer Nichole Leveck, this group creates space for healing through the soothing sounds of strings and unforgettable harmonies. They engage with the audience in a beautiful way, bringing together traditions that span Nations and generations. Storytelling is at their core, leaving each person with the feeling that they are not alone. Read more about them here.
“Aqua graced the Greek Theatre Stage during our 2021 collaboration with Women in Song and returned for a set at last year’s Guild Alive With Culture festival. We are thrilled that they’ll be returning to launch our season. Their uplifting performances are full of hope and joy and will be the perfect start to our summer in Guild Park!”

The 39 Steps (July 17 – August 3)
Part Hitchcock masterpiece, part classic spy novel, part Monty Python comedy, The 39 Steps is a hilarious and fast-paced whodunit featuring a cast of four actors playing over 100 characters. Richard Hannay, a Canadian in London, is leading a boring life when he meets a mysterious woman who claims to be a spy. After she is murdered in his home, Hannay is mistakenly accused and goes on the run to Scotland with an enigmatic organization called “The 39 Steps” hot on his trail.
The 39 Steps is filled with non-stop laughs, fast-paced fun, thrilling action and some old-fashioned romance! Adapted by Patrick Barlow from the novel by John Buchan and the movie by Alfred Hitchcock, and directed by GFT Co-Artistic Director Tyler J. Seguin, the cast features Sébastien Heins, Georgia Findlay, Isaiah Kolundzic and Kiana Woo.

Heratio (August 7 – 24)
Guild Festival Theatre is proud to present the world premiere of Genevieve Adam’s Heratio, a bold re-imagining of Hamlet that picks up the story after Shakespeare’s ending. Through a delightful blend of humour, mystery and melancholy, the play gives the stage to the women and servants who are left to clean up the mess created by the intrigues of princes and kings.
Heratio was developed through In Conversation with Classics, Guild Festival Theatre’s program for new plays. Directed by GFT Co-Artistic Director Helen Juvonen, the cast features Janelle Hanna, Philippa Domville, Jack Davidson, Siobhan Richardson, Rashaana Cumberbatch and Phoenix Fire.
