Two South Asian clowns perform on stage, both wearing blue tutus, pale grey long-sleeved t-shirts, yellow vests and black pants. The male clown, wearing a black cap, is on the floor as the female clown, wearing a yellow cap stands over him, her left leg extended as she rests her foot against his left shoulder. She smiles with triumph, while he looks surprised and shocked.

Two Brown clowns mock British colonizers in a hilarious history lesson

This minimal language, immersive clown show blends history, humour and a dash of Alejandro Jodorowsky-inspired mysticism into one thrilling and unpredictable ride. Colonial Circus is here to turn the Western world upside down with two Brown clowns playing British colonizers – bringing all the laughs, gasps and uncomfortable chuckles audiences can handle.

This comedic phantasmagoria is written and performed by South Asian artists Sachin Sharma and Shreya Parashar, the co-founders of Hinprov, Canada’s first and only bilingual improv community for people of colour. This spring and summer, they performed Colonial Circus at Newfoundland & Labrador Sketch Comedy Fest, the Montreal Fringe and Edmonton Fringe Festivals – and are now coming to Toronto for a final showcase of seven performances.

About Two2Mango

Sachin Sharma and Shreya Parashar, the powerhouse duo behind Two2Mango, blend improv, clowning, bouffon and Indian classical dance to create performances that challenge, provoke and entertain. Drawing inspiration from their South Asian roots, their work sparks meaningful conversations beyond laughter. As founders of Hinprov, a bilingual improv community for IBPOC artists, they’re committed to introducing new voices to Toronto’s comedy stages, amplifying underrepresented talent. Their goal is to celebrate being funny in one’s own language. They have performed at Detroit Improv Festival, Toronto Fringe, Improv Fest Ireland, Vancouver Improv Fest, Guelph Comedy Fest, Just for Laughs, Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival, Mississauga Multilingual Fringe Festival and more.

* Originating in French theatre, bouffon is a style of performance based on mocking its subject.

Two South Asian clowns crawl along the stage floor. Both are wearing pale grey long-sleeved t-shirts and black pants. The male clown, also wearing a yellow vest and black cap, gazes off and upwards intently. The female clown, wearing a yellow cap and no vest, crawls behind him, gazes at us with an expression of wide-eyed surprise.
