Saying less Saying less

How do we communicate when our words are limited?

Theatre Aurinko presents: Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons

From Friday, November 6 to Sunday, November 15, 2026 – Theatre Aurinko presents Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons, a play that imagines a world where we’re forced to say less. Presented at The Assembly Theatre.

What if we each had a word limit?

The average person will speak 123,205,750 words in a lifetime. But what if there were a limit? Oliver and Bernadette are about to find out. Part rom-com, part dystopian fiction, Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons is about what we say and how we say it; about the things we can only hear in the silence; about dead cats, activism, eye contact and lemons, lemons, lemons, lemons, lemons.

Written by Sam Steiner, the play premiered at Warwick Arts Centre in 2015 and won three Judges’ Awards at the National Student Drama Festival before appearing at Latitude Festival, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and Camden People’s Theatre, London; and enjoyed five-star reviews in a 2023 West End run.

Theatre Aurinko returns!

Theatre Aurinko follows up their inaugural production, This Feels Like the End, at the 2024 Next Stage Festival, and a sold-out improv-meets-Shakespeare hybrid performance of Macbeth in spring 2026, with this production of Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons. Directed by Theatre Aurinko Founder Bonnie Duff (Assistant Director, Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey, Guild Festival Theatre; Playwright/Performer, This Feels Like The End, Theatre Aurinko/Next Stage Festival), the cast features Lara Lucia (The Drowsy Chaperone, Shifting Ground Collective; Brontë: The World Without, Guild Festival Theatre) and Jack Copland (The Moors, Riot King Theatre; The Comeback, Globus Theatre).

About Theatre Aurinko

Theatre Aurinko is an emerging Toronto-based theatre company with a focus on BIG IDEA theatre. With a commitment to pushing the limits of the suspension of disbelief and championing works, new and old, that ignite curiosity in artists and audiences. The company was founded by Bonnie Duff in 2023 for the production of her play This Feels Like the End at the 2024 Next Stage Theatre Festival (at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre). This production was called a “brilliant psychoanalysis” and an “exemplary piece of work out of COVID-19” by the Toronto Star. In 2026, Theatre Aurinko produced TRIP: Thoroughly Rehearsed Improv Play, a Shakespeare-meets-improv hybrid production of Macbeth, to a sold-out crowd. Theatre Aurinko’s work has been supported by Ontario Arts Council and Canada Council grants.

“I am so thrilled to bring this genre-bending play to the stage with this amazing team of emerging and established artists. Steiner’s script is a thrilling balance of the childlike curiosity that comes with a what-if story, while sensitively exploring class, gender, censorship and communication in contemporary relationships. We can’t wait to share it with you!”

– Bonnie Duff, Director & Theatre Aurinko Founder
