Audreys Classics Book Club

On select Monday nights – Audreys Books hosts Audreys Classics Book Club. This book club aims to introduce modern readers to the joys of classic literature through relaxed discussions of shorter and longer works by various authors.

Relaxed discussions about classic literature

Books published 50+ years ago are selected by the group, voted on by email and in person at meetings. Previous book selections have included Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man, a compelling and epic work featuring a nameless narrator who tells his story from the basement lair of the Invisible Man he imagines himself to be. The summer 2026 selection is The Hearing Trumpet by Leonora Carrington, a surrealist novel about a 92-year-old hearing-impaired woman who is sent to a strange old-age home by her family. The Club meets in person to discuss the selected book.

Please note: While this is a recurring event, they don’t necessarily meet monthly. See their Events page for details and dates for upcoming meetings. You can also email them at events@audreys.ca to get on their mailing list for this book club and stay up to date on upcoming events and book selections, including book selection votes. You can purchase the books from them by clicking on the corresponding ‘Buy Books’ button on the Events page.

About Audreys Books

Located in a heritage building in the heart of downtown Edmonton, Audreys Books has shared the joys of reading since 1975. Their name doesn’t include an apostrophe because the store was originally named after two Audreys whose husbands owned the store. In 1985, store ownership shifted to Sharon and Steve Budnarchuk, and it’s currently managed by their daughter, Kelly Dyer. They offer a vast selection of Albertan and Indigenous authors, literary fiction, cookbooks and children’s books. Additionally, they host book launches and events on the lower level of their two-floor shop. They’re a founding member of the Edmonton Indie Bookstore Extravaganza, coinciding with the annual Canadian Independent Bookstore Day in April. During the school year, they facilitate school book fairs and are a fixture at local teachers’ conferences. Read more about them here.
