One night only, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 – FLATO Academy Theatre presents Classic Troubadours Live: The Songs of James, Joni, Jackson & Carole, an extraordinary musical journey that celebrates the timeless songs of James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne and Carole King.
An unforgettable night of music: a tribute that goes beyond imitation
Award-winning singer-songwriter Jacob Moon brings you a dynamic five-piece ensemble of incredible singers and musicians paying homage to these music icons. This tribute goes beyond imitation to honour the artistry of these legendary singer-songwriters. Featuring profound renditions of beloved classics like “You’ve Got a Friend,” “Big Yellow Taxi,” “Running on Empty” and “It’s Too Late,” this show brings the nostalgia and magic of the ‘70s to life.
The band includes singers Alex Whorms and Ashley St. Pierre, drummer Rob ‘Beatdown’ Brown, bassist Mark McIntyre and, new to the band, singer Selena Evangeline.
“With warm, authentic performances and rich storytelling, Classic Troubadours Live is more than a concert – it’s a heartfelt tribute to the music that defined a generation. Perfect for fans of these iconic artists, this evening promises to be a celebration of connection, memory and joy.”

About Classic Troubadours Live
Jacob Moon started Classic Troubadours Live in the fall of 2023 – and, since then, they’ve sold out performances in theatres all over Ontario. Moon has released 12 albums of his own music over the past 25 years, and performed for RUSH and Gordon Lightfoot. His music has been featured on CBC and Sirius XM, and he has toured Europe as a supporting act for UK band Marillion. He’s presented seven sold-out shows at The Westdale Theatre in Hamilton in 2023/24; and created three other dynamic shows from this series: The Songs of Sting & Peter Gabriel, The Songs of Robbie Robertson & The Band and The Songs of Stevie Nicks & Sheryl Crow.
Alex Whorms has released two CDs under her own imprint, and composed scores for film and television. Singer Ashley St. Pierre has been a sought-after jazz chanteuse for years, and brings her incredible musicality to bear on songs by Joni and Carole. Drummer Rob “Beatdown” Brown has hundreds of thousands of followers on YouTube and has rubbed shoulders with the greatest drummers of all time. Bassist Mark McIntyre plays with David Wilcox, Danny Michel and Dean Brody. Singer Selena Evangeline joins the band this year for the first time in a run of shows in Ontario – she’s sung with Amanda Marshall, Johnny Reid, Jacob Moon and more.
About FLATO Academy Theatre
The FLATO Academy Theatre was built in the spring of 1892 – and, when it opened its doors in 1893, it was billed as the most technically perfect theatre in Canada. With seating for 900 people, there was one balcony and one dress circle, with VIP boxes on either side of the stage. It was in this theatre that Canadian-born stage and silent film Marie Dressler made her first stage appearance at the age of five, in an amateur play organized by her mother. As part of the vaudeville circuit in the early 1900s, the Academy hosted a young Sammy Davis Jr. and the Marx Brothers. Falling on hard times in the 1950s, competing with the local movie theatre, the theatre was revived in the 1960s, presenting theatre and music performances, including Kawartha Summer Theatre and Canadian country music legend Tommy Hunter. Today, a small, dedicated staff and management team work behind the scenes to ensure that every show, event and experience runs smoothly – and the theatre remains a vibrant hub for arts and culture in the community.
