From Thursday, April 25 to Sunday, May 5, 2024, Hot Docs presents the 31st edition of its annual Hot Docs Festival at various venues around Toronto, including the Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema. With 168 documentaries from 64 countries and 83 world and international premieres, the 2024 Hot Docs Festival showcases compelling stories of visionary filmmakers and intriguing subjects from Canada and across the globe. This year’s Festival opens with Luther: Never Too Much, a documentary about the life and legacy of legendary soul artist Luther Vandross, directed by Dawn Porter; and features a selection of Festival Favourites and Special Presentations. The Festival also offers business, networking and development opportunities for documentary filmmakers at all career levels through the Hot Docs Conference & Market. Every year, Hot Docs brings filmmakers together, and brings documentaries from far and wide to audiences.

About the Hot Docs Festival

The Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival is an annual film festival, conference and market, taking place at various venues around Toronto, including the Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema, the world’s first and largest documentary cinema – a century-old landmark located in Toronto’s Annex neighbourhood. The Festival is the largest of its kind in North America, presenting cutting-edge films from around the world.

Cost: Packages are available in 20-packs and 12-packs; these can be used for all in-cinema regular screenings, special presentations, and special events like Big Ideas and opening night. Package holders can share tickets with friends and family; and save up to 30% on regular ticket prices.

Free Daytime Screenings: Students and patrons 60+ with valid ID can take advantage of free admission to Festival screenings that start before 5:00 PM. Pick up a ticket at the screening venue’s box office on the day of the screening, subject to availability. Free screenings for students courtesy of CBC and CBC Gem.
