Produced by Abel Salazar and directed by Fernando Méndez, with an original screenplay by Ramon Obon, El Vampiro (The Vampire) is a 1957 Mexican horror film starring Germán Robles, Abel Salazar and Ariadna Welter. Inspired by the classic horror canon, this film marks the beginning of the 1960s’ Mexican horror boom.

When Marta returns to her hometown to make funeral arrangements for her beloved aunt, she starts hearing strange tales of vampires lurking in the town – and soon begins to suspect her mysterious next door neighbour Mr. Duval and even her remaining aunt, who appears to be under his influence.
