On December 1, join Killer B Cinema for The Turkish Wizard of Oz!
Kick off the holiday season with Killer B’s annual December screening of The Turkish Wizard of Oz. It will certainly get you in the spirit. Heck, even if you don’t know the words, sing along with everyone else. You can make it a new holiday tradition!
The Turkish Wizard of Oz is a 1971 film by director Tunç Başaran, starring Zeynep Değirmencioğlu as Ayşecik, who also featured in many other Turkish adaptations of famous stories like Cinderella (1971), Pollyanna (1971) and Snow White (1970).
A tornado carries Ayşecik and her dog Banju, along with her parents’ farmhouse, to Rüyalar Ulkesinde (Dreamland). During her adventurous journey to get home, she meets a Scarecrow, an Iron Woodman and a Cowardly Lion, and dances to music from what appears to be an invisible radio. Appearing at various times to help are seven Cüceler (dwarfs) (dressed like MGM Munchkin soldiers, only in red and white), who assist the Good Witch of the North. Just like the original… only weirder.
This was a real labour of love for Killer B Cinema, as Zoltan had to create the subtitles himself, thanks to the help of Ulaş Kozbe, who did the translating.

The movie will be shown at See-Scape, a sci-fi, cyber punk-themed bar and café featuring an amazing menu, with bar service on two floors. Killer B movie screenings are on the second floor. The second-floor bar is open during the event and is cash only. Debit/credit purchases are available at the main floor bar.
