One-day course at Flycatcher Press
Get introduced to type setting, letterpress & wood type, and the history of poster making!

Make your own poster (political, protest, inspirational, poetic – anything goes!) using carved linoleum blocks or beautiful wood type from Flycatcher Press’s own collection. Get to see all of the cool posters and type specimens that they have collected over the years. In this one-day workshop, you’ll design and print your own unique poster using letterpress and linocut techniques. You’ll learn how to design with, and set type, how to carve and print a linoleum block and will come away with a newfound love for the medium and texture of printing using this vintage medium. Materials and tax included.

Hosted by: Flycatcher Press, a letterpress and printmaking studio in Toronto’s Queen West neighbourhood.

Type of event: Hands-on workshop

Instructor: Phoebe Todd-Parrish, printmaker and owner of Flycatcher Press. She is also a printmaking instructor who has taught relief and letterpress printing at OCAD University.

Date: Saturday, January 28, 2024

Time: 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM ET

Duration: 7 hours. There will be a 45-minute break for lunch from 12:15 PM to 1:00 PM.

Cancellation Policy: In the event you cannot make the course, please contact the organizer as soon as possible and they will issue you a refund and make your seat available. If it is within 48 hours of the course’s first date, unfortunately your fee will be non-refundable. A minimum of 3 students for every course is required for the course to take place, if they don’t reach this minimum you’ll be issued a full refund.
