Literal Trash: A Comedy Experience

Tuesdays nights on August 19, September 16, October 21 and November 25, 2025 – Toronto comedian Adam Mohammed invites audiences to join him for a wholesome night of irony with Literal Trash: A Comedy Experience. A series of solo, unscripted experimental physical comedy shows that follow Trash, a two-foot tall sentient garbage bag with a heart of gold, it’s running at The Tranzac.

For fans of WALL-E & Marcel the Shell with Shoes On

Literal Trash: A Comedy Experience is an exploration of what happens when a bag of trash comes to life. The character, Trash (pronouns: “trash” or “it”), is a friendly, yet often overlooked, trash bag who has been waiting for the garbage truck to finally bring it to the landfill where it might find friends. Trash’s urban wildlife neighbours are moving to Orangeville, and it carries a deep longing to belong.

Reflecting on the rare occasion of being around humans, Trash examines its downtrodden life as it tries connecting with the audience by listening to sad music with them or being the subject of life drawing. By the end of each night – in real time, with the audience’s help – Trash discovers new meaning, new friends, and what can only be treated as a true moral of the immersive story: we all feel like Trash sometimes. And it asks the lingering question: why can’t we feel like Trash together?

An immersive audience experience = a different performance every night!

Over several work-in-progress performance nights, Literal Trash invites gentle audience co-creation as Trash innocently reflects on a newfound (lovable) interior space, the rare occasion of being around people, and its heaping of existential feelings. Because Trash interacts with willing audience members in a friendly, immersive way, each night is different – so please feel free to stop by more than once during the show’s run.

Literal Trash is created and performed by Adam Mohammed. He was coached and mentored by Isaac Kessler, who has been in comedy for over 18 years, is a four-time Canadian Comedy Award nominee and one-half of the award-winning ClownProv juggernaut 2-MAN NO-SHOW alongside Ken Hall.

Thirty seats will be available for each performance, with some high chairs associated with side tables – but if more than 30 guests RSVP, they can increase the audience area. The stage will literally be everywhere! And, no worries, the performance does not utilize strong scents or create an unsanitary environment.

The production acknowledges the support of the Canada Council for the Arts.

“There’s something compelling about this pouty trash bag.”
