RUTAS International Festival of Performance

From Thursday, September 24 to Sunday, October 4, 2026 – Aluna Theatre presents the RUTAS International Festival of Performance. Presented at Theatre Passe Muraille, Factory Theatre and Hart House.

The only performance event of its kind in Canada

Since 2012, the RUTAS International Festival of Performance has established itself as the only event of its kind in Canada. Through Aluna Theatre’s mission of connecting the Americas through the arts, the festival brings to Toronto some of the most innovative artists representing the cultural diversity of our continent. With breathtaking presentations in theatre, dance, performance and installation, RUTAS creates a TransAmerican experience of impeccable quality and excellence for all. Downtown Toronto becomes the meeting place for audiences from across the GTA to be inspired, moved and entertained by a gamut of rich artistic experiences.

Curated by Beatriz Pizano. Featuring artists Tara Beagan, Irma Villafuerte, Alina Peña Iguarán and Alicia Laguna, Natalie Álvarez, Katiana Gonçales Rangel and Edurne Rankin.

RUTAS is more than a festival. It is a commitment to building thriving communities. This biennial festival was founded by Aluna Theatre in 2012. This celebrated award-winning company has brought the Latinx and other racialized communities to the forefront, transforming the landscape of Canadian theatre.

About Aluna Theatre

Aluna is a not-for-profit organization created in 2001 to address the underrepresentation and misrepresentation of a number of diverse communities in the arts. For 25 years, they have been creating, developing, producing and presenting artistically innovative and culturally diverse performance work, with a focus on Latin Canadian, racialized, women and newcomer artists. Accessibility: Theatre Passe Muraille is a relaxed environment and wheelchair-accessible venue. Factory Theatre is a wheelchair-accessible venue. The presentations of Mujer Venado at Factory Theatre are presented in Spanish with English captions. For the presentations of Xilopango at Theatre Passe Muraille, South of Your Feet have collaborated to offer a limited number of vibrotactile pillows by VibraFusion Lab as an accessibility support for Deaf and hard-of-hearing audience members, as well as folx with access needs who may benefit from experiencing sound through vibration. Pillows are available on a first-come, first-served basis for audience members with access needs.
