TEASE: a reimagined burlesque comedy

Sex, politics & what it means to be a woman

After its sold-out run at the 2020 Next Stage Festival, TEASE returns to Toronto from Wednesday, March 13 to Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Crow’s Theatre. Presented by The Big City Kitties, in association with Crow’s Theatre, it’s a reimagining of the burlesque comedy genre, co-created by Glenys Marshall, Mei Miyazawa and Lindsay Mullan.

TEASE challenges society’s patriarchal views and misogynistic expectations while unflinchingly poking fun at its own “woke” packaging. Combining elements of clown, sketch comedy, improv and dance, TEASE is as salty as it is sweet – entertaining with humour and sex appeal while managing to surprise audiences with an underlying heartfelt message.

“This revolutionary comedy show is funny, smart, instructive, disturbing, brave, joyous, deeply humane, and honest. Everyone needs to see it.”

– Glenn Sumi

About Crow’s Theatre

For 40 years, Crow’s Theatre has been a leading force in the Canadian theatre landscape, recognized for provocative and award-winning new theatre works that premiere in Toronto, often followed by national and international tours. Led by Artistic and General Director Chris Abraham and Executive Director Sherrie Johnson, Crow’s Theatre ignites passionate and enduring engagement between audiences and artists by creating, producing and promoting unforgettable theatre that examines and illuminates the pivotal narratives of our times. In 2017, Crow’s Theatre moved into its first permanent home, the purpose-built Streetcar Crowsnest at the corner of Carlaw Avenue and Dundas Street, the first arts hub of its kind in Toronto’s east end, comprised of four venues for dynamic cultural and community programming.
