TOFringe: Jack Goes to Therapy: A (Somewhat) Romantic Comedy

A laugh-out-loud story, filled with love, heartbreak & everything in between

From Friday, July 4 to Friday, July 11, 2025 – Zac Williams brings his critically acclaimed solo show Jack Goes to Therapy: A (Somewhat) Romantic Comedy to the 2025 Toronto Fringe Festival. An unforgettable and loveable story of a Kindergarten teacher in therapy with a broken heart after his boyfriend leaves him for the man they had a threesome with, running at Alumnae Theatre’s Mainspace.

Wild rom-com situational comedy

Jack Goes to Therapy is a semi-autobiographical play that addresses mens’ mental health, loneliness, homophobia and toxic masculinity in a way that is brutally honest and simultaneously hilarious. It’s a story of resiliency – of finding support and community in a time of need.

Alongside its heavier themes, it’s buoyed up by laugh-out-loud moments such as Jack asking his STI-testing nurse for dating advice, his straight roommate walking in on him in the shower, his Kindergarten student finding a dead mouse and throwing it across the classroom, and many more.

“A tearjerker in both senses, defying expectations with its
profound sincerity.” (4 stars)

The Edinburgh Fringe hit comes home!

After premiering in Vancouver, garnering critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe and transferring to London, UK, this hit one-man show returns to Canada with eight published four and five star reviews to its name!

After a sold-out three-night run at The Staircase Theatre in Hamilton in May, Toronto marks the second stop of the show’s Canadian tour. Following its Toronto Fringe run at the beginning of July, Jack Goes to Therapy heads to the Winnipeg Fringe  (July 16-27, 2025).

About Zac Williams

Zac Williams is an actor, writer/performer and elementary school teacher originally from Caledonia, ON. He began focusing on writing one-man plays during the pandemic, and his first piece was the 15-minute monologue Blockhead, a parody tackling Millennial anxiety about the future through the eyes of the perpetual worry-wort Charlie Brown. His second solo show, Jack Goes to Therapy: A (Somewhat) Romantic Comedy, is the work he’s most proud of. Zac holds a Masters of Acting from University of Essex, UK, and has appeared in commercial and television roles in Canada. He recently relocated back to Ontario after years living in Vancouver and London, UK.

“I started writing Jack Goes to Therapy after my own experience of a heartbreak and signing up for therapy for the first time. The show kind of was a way for me to find the humour in life, even with a broken heart. And I had so much fun writing it, that it became a healing tool in many ways. The show has an optimistic outlook, because I think I needed an optimistic outlook for myself at the time.”
