Hot Docs Festival 2024

PAST EVENT. From Thu, Apr. 25 – Sun, May 5, 2024: See leading-edge documentaries from around the world. This year’s Festival is Hot Docs’ 31st edition. It features 168 documentaries, including world, North American and Canadian premieres, plus a conference & market for documentary filmmakers.

PAST EVENT. One night only - Sat, May 4, 2024: Soundstreams presents Grandma’s Shawl, a musical journey inspired by Kokum shawls & the bond between Ukrainian and Indigenous women. This concert features the enchanting voices of Natalya Gennadi (soprano) & Kristine Dandavino (mezzo), accompanied by Jo Greenaway on piano & Oleksandra Fedyshyn on the violin. Curated & directed by Natalya Gennadi, at The Redwood Theatre.

Forward March Festival 2024

PAST EVENT. Two days only – Sat, May 4 & Sun, May 5, 2024: Theatre Direct Canada presents Forward March Festival 2024 at the George Chuvalo Neighbourhood Centre. It includes three new interactive plays created especially for kids aged 7-12. Free event. All plays are performed with ASL interpretation or, for plays in ASL, with voiceover in English.

Huff by Cliff Cardinal

PAST EVENT. Seven performances only! Tue, Apr. 23 - Sun, Apr. 28, 2024: Cliff Cardinal returns to Crow's Theatre with his critically acclaimed, award-winning solo show Huff, a savagely funny & harrowing tale of Wind and his brothers as they struggle with their mother’s death, a reserve school system that’s failing them & a solvent-abuse problem. A Cunning Concepts & Creations production.

shaniqua in abstraction: a one-woman play

PAST EVENT. From Tue, Apr. 9 – Sun, Apr. 28, 2024: Crow’s Theatre, in association with paul watson productions and Obsidian Theatre Company, presents the world premiere of bahia watson’s daring one-woman play shaniqua in abstraction. In her new work, watson brings her poet’s heart and keen eye to defiantly push back the boundaries defining Black womanhood. At Streetcar Crowsnest.

PAST EVENT. From Thu, Apr. 11 – Sun, Apr. 21, 2024: Join Eldtritch Theatre for the return of The House at Poe Corner, the terrifying tales of Edgar Allen Poe narrated by two lost souls and performed in petrifying perpetuity with puppets and magic by twisted little toys. For audiences 14+.

Artist Project 2024

PAST EVENT. From Thu, Apr. 11 – Sun, Apr. 14, 2024: Artist Project presents its 2024 exhibition in the Better Living Centre at Toronto’s Exhibition Place. An annual juried exhibition, this year’s event includes the work of over 250 independent Canadian artists, making it the destination to discover new art talent while exploring the work & meeting the artists.

Keyed Up! A Festival for Multiple Keyboards

PAST EVENT. Three nights only. Thu, Apr. 18 – Sat, Apr. 20, 2024: Soundstreams presents Keyed Up! A Festival for Multiple Keyboards at the Jane Mallett Theatre in the St. Lawrence Centre. Exceptional artists perform compelling works for various combinations of piano, harpsichord, electronic keyboard & digital organ from Canada & around the world – including the works of well-known & emerging composers.

Toronto Silent Film Festival 2024

PAST EVENT. Three days only! From Fri, Apr. 12 – Sun, Apr. 14, 2024: The Toronto Silent Film Festival presents a lineup of silent film gems at the Revue Cinema, featuring films from Germany, the USA and France, plus shorts & a documentary exploring the history of slapstick. Each screening includes live music accompaniment!
