Art

All things visual arts.

ART fuels us.

Art is everywhere. But we don’t always make enough time and space for it in our lives. Could you imagine a world where we didn’t have paintings or photography, or films? Or any types of sculptures? Or design? It’s unthinkable. We want to live in a society where visual artists are essential, no matter how famous they are. Where visual art is not a “nice to have”, an afterthought if there is still budget left over, but rather a meaningful, powerful and absolutely vital way to connect with the world around us, with each other and our humanity. One where art is a staple in our lives, because it challenges us, comforts us and nourishes us.

That’s what we mean by ART:

Although it may be the first thing that comes to mind when hearing the word ‘art’, this theme is about a lot more than famous oil paintings by famous painters from centuries ago. ART covers visual artists working in various art forms like painting, drawing, sculpture, design, photography or filmmaking, just to name a few. And printmaking. And artists’ books (works of art which happen to be in the form of a book). It is an incredibly vast field, with endless things to see and discover. ART also includes art history, places to buy art (such as galleries or video stores, for films that is) and places to see art (such as museums, art fairs or even building walls in your city). It also covers how to become an art collector. And of course, how to become an artist too. For example, by taking an art class. Or by just picking up some watercolour paints and trying things out for yourself. You never know, you may surprise yourself.

We are building an arts & letters directory

We want to help you find resources about art that inspire you. We want you to discover artworks to enjoy and collect. We want to showcase artists and the mediums they work in. We want to give you ideas for events, workshops and classes to attend in the community to connect with fellow artists. And we want to help you find supplies that unleash your creativity.

While our directory is only just getting started, this is what we have planned for the theme of ART:

FINDING ART: Art galleries; Art fairs; Art museums; Photography & design festivals; Film festivals & events; Cinemas; Video stores & rental; Radio programs & podcasts about art; Lecture series, talks & other events; Journals & magazines and Newsletters & blogs about art. MAKING ART: Art supply stores; Art classes, tutorials & workshops; Techniques; Drawing; Painting; (Analog) Photography; Sculpture; Arts & crafts; Design; Artists' books; Printmaking; Filmmaking; Short films; Documentary films and Installation art.
