Scriptus

Scriptus is an annual pen and writing show that values communication: reading, writing and understanding one another. The show offers a selection of fine pens (including old and new fountain pens), lavish stationery from all over the world and a variety of vibrant inks – all in a community of engaged writers, readers and exhibitors.

The show is organized by award-winning director, actor, producer and long-time fountain pen user and collector Philip Akin; and Priscilla Yu, a certified yoga instructor and more recent fountain pen fan who also loves Japanese stationery items. Over 50 writing equipment and stationery exhibitors participate every year, offering writing-related goods: pens, ink, pencils, stationery and paper, and related items (desk items, storage, ephemera, tools). The event takes place on the last Sunday every October at the Toronto Reference Library and admission is free. The show features a series of raffle prize draws of fine pen and stationery products donated by exhibitors and sponsors.

What we like about this pen show

Honestly, they had us at “pen and writing.” We could spend hours browsing the various exhibitors’ offerings, learning about their work and product lines; and luxuriating in so many beautiful writing instruments and stationery products! We also appreciate that Scriptus was started by true fountain pen enthusiasts, Philip and Priscilla. They started the show in the mid-2010s and it has grown in popularity each year since then.

Elena especially loves their raffle and has won raffle prizes in multiple years. She also likes the precious hand-made paper creations from long-time Scriptus exhibitor Studio Robert Wu. And Cate especially loves the hand-crafted pens from past exhibitor Timber Elegance Pens. (Written by C.M.)

Accessibility information: The Toronto Reference Library and Bram & Bluma Appel Salon are fully accessible with elevator access to the show.
