Violet Hour Book Club - Toronto Edition: How We Fight for Our Lives

PAST EVENT: One night only – Thu, Feb. 19, 2026: Another Story Bookshop hosts their second meeting of the Toronto edition of the Violet Hour Book Club, a reading & discussion group dedicated to exploring classic & contemporary 2S/LGBTQ+ literature. This event’s book selection is Saeed Jones’ How We Fight for Our Lives: A Memoir, the coming-of-age story of a young Black gay man from the American South fighting to carve out a place for himself.

PAST EVENT: One night only – Tue, Feb. 9, 2026: Soundstreams presents Another side of Arvo Pärt as part of their ongoing TD Encounters series. This Encounters celebrates Pärt’s 90th birthday, featuring some of his secular and folk-inspired pieces, plus works by Omar Daniel and Anna Pidgorna. Presented as a free concert at Hugh’s Room Live.

Soundstreams presents: Transoceanic

PAST EVENT: One night only – Mon, Jan 19, 2026: Soundstreams presents Transoceanic as part of their ongoing TD Encounters series. Works from diasporic composers Corie Rose Soumah, Kotoka Suzuki & Anthony Tan reimagine sound & light through science-fiction visions that shift Eurocentric narratives of progress. Presented as a free concert at Hugh’s Room Live.

Necessary Angel presents: Moonlight Schooner

PAST EVENT: From Fri, Nov 21 – Sun, Dec. 14, 2025: Necessary Angel Theatre Company presents the world premiere of Moonlight Schooner, an evocative tale – told with humour & poignancy – about the systemic & deliberate breaking of Black men by colonial forces during the Windrush Generation & the casualties left behind. Presented in association with Canadian Stage & Tarragon Theatre at the Berkeley Street Theatre.

Buddies in Bad Times presents: Bijuriya created by Gabriel Dharmoo

Violet Hour Book Club Toronto Edition: What I Know About You

Literal Trash: A Comedy Experience

PAST EVENT: Tue nights on Aug. 19, Sep. 16, Oct. 21 & Nov. 25, 2025: Toronto comedian Adam Mohammed invites audiences to join him for a wholesome evening of irony with Literal Trash: A Comedy Experience. Follow Trash, a two-foot tall sentient garbage bag with a heart of gold, in an experimental physical comedy show at The Tranzac. For audiences 14+.
